Approaching the Singularity: Thoughts About the Future

Approaching the singularity has been a dream for many scientists

David W. Stewart presents Angel of Morality, a novel science-fiction story about a world that is approaching the singularity: a reality that seems so far away.

Based in Florida, author David W. Stewart finished his bachelor’s in Physics at the University of Florida in 1959. Throughout most of his life, he has been at the frontlines of advancements in science and technology. He was the lead engineer, supervisor, and manager for the Atlas, Titan, and Apollo space shuttles. He was also the owner of L&D Consulting, a firm that specialized in grants and proposals.

So, it is with great pleasure to have read his science-fiction novel, Angel of Morality, which explores the idea of a world that is slowly approaching singularity.

Angel of Morality

This new work from David W. Stewart depicts the necessary battle to save humanity and Earth from the consequences of the SANG, an advanced machine that has the capacity to create great terror and havoc. From the Sang are the xenoborgs, massive amalgamations of nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and advanced robotics that have the power to completely change the world.

As the inventor of the SANG, Dr. Raisa Ilyushkin must find a way to stop the xenoborgs from getting out of control and destroying all life on the planet while at the same time fighting against the machinations of Stephan Pavlovich, leader of the Apparat, an international criminal organization, who is planning on using the SANG to reduce the world’s population and control the world that comes after.

Thoughts About the Future

As I sit here, after reading Angel of Morality, contemplating the future of humanity, I can’t help but think about what will happen because of the unprecedented advancements in nanobots, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

These three fields of study have been the subject of much debate and speculation, and it’s no wonder why. The potential consequences that these scientific fields will bring in the future are truly staggering, and there is no doubt that they will undoubtedly change the course of human society forever.

Of course, while these possibilities are extremely exciting, they do come with significant caveats. A great concern regarding nanobots is that they could be programmed to conduct malicious activities like delivering toxins or other harmful substances to the body. Similarly, there are multiple ways that robotics could be mishandled to create autonomous weapons that would harm people more. And when it comes to artificial technology, there is always the concern that it could turn against us, especially because things are slowly approaching singularity.

While these concerns have some validity, they shouldn’t overshadow the incredible potential of what these technologies could bring to the fore. With careful regulation and strict oversight, we can easily ensure that they are used specifically for the betterment of humanity rather than its impairment or its destruction. There is also a need to ensure that the benefits of these technologies are shared openly and equitably rather than allowing the elite few to monopolize them.

Approaching Singularity

Nanobots have the potential to revolutionize healthcare. Smaller than red blood cells, these tiny machines could be programmed to enter the human body and repair damaged cells and tissues. They can also deliver drugs directly to malformed, cancerous cells, which effectively cure the disease without the harsh side effects of chemotherapy. Nanotechnology can also be used to create machines that monitor the body for signs of illness, catching problems before they become serious or fatal.

Artificial intelligence is another field that can potentially change the world. Currently, AI has primarily been used in small industries and businesses. Yet, as technology advances, all areas of human life will be significantly impacted. A brilliant application of AI would be in public travel, which would greatly reduce the accidents that can be caused by human error, and traffic flow on roads would be optimized to reduce congestion. Artificial technology also has the capacity to design better and more efficient eco-friendly energy systems that can reduce our unhealthy reliance on fossil fuels.

And in robotics, which is the most clearly exciting among the three fields, there are already technologies that are being used in manufacturing and other industries. When the future comes, and robotics have reached a further level, robots could replace humans in performing extremely dangerous jobs like mining and exploration. Disaster response is also a novel area to apply advancements in robotics, letting machines search for survivors and deliver aid. In applications for space, robots could be sent to planets and moons to conduct activities like excavating rare or needed minerals and searching for life in the outer fringes of our solar system.
